Guardians Vol. 2’s Soundtrack Is Even Bigger and More Obscure

Music is integral to the DNA of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and I got to witness that first hand during a visit to the film’s set last April.

We were observing a scene where Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista) were walking on board Ego the Living Planet’s (Kurt Russell) spaceship, seemingly for the first time. There was no dialogue as they walked through the inside of the ship, marveling at technology that would be added in post-production. Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” was blasting from speakers, filling up the entire filming area and creating the experience of the song being a character in the scene alongside the cast.

Like with Guardians of the Galaxy, the entire soundtrack for Vol. 2 was played out loud in tandem with the scenes being filmed. While we were being there, we also managed to sneak a listen to another song that should be included in the finished film: George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord.” To tally the total, that makes three known songs that likely will appear on the soundtrack, if Jay and the Americans’ “Come a Little Bit Closer” (which played during a scene shown at Comic-Con) also makes the cut.
