TORONTO — It was a savage slaying in a North York ravine that left homicide detectives with a huge crime scene and more questions than answers last summer.
But Toronto Police say an arrest has now been made in the killing of a woman who was found butchered in a creek in Derrydowns Park, near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W., on Aug. 19, 2017.
It was a passerby walking through the wooded park who spotted the woman’s body in the water and alerted police to the horrific scene.
“She was stabbed multiple times; I’m not talking once, I’m not talking twice, I’m not even talking three or four times,” Const. David Hopkinson said days after the grisly discovery.
At the time, investigators were able to say exactly how long the body had been in the water, but they appealed for anyone who had been in the park during the previous two days to come forward.
The city’s 32nd murder victims of the year was later identified as Virgil Jack, 31, of Toronto.
