It’s a Dianetics dust-up.
A former security officer for the Church of Scientology has revealed the bitter blood between two high fliers in the controversial religion.
The rivalry between A-list members John Travolta and Scientology poster boy Tom Cruise has gone on for decades as they scrambled to be leader David Miscavige’s top flunky.
“Cruise is the only celeb with a direct line to Miscavige. Travolta and Kirstie don’t have that,” former member Brendan Tighe told the Daily Mail.
“Travolta doesn’t get anything free, no one is giving him absurd gifts like an airplane hangar, custom-made bikes, or over the top favours.”
According to Tighe, when the 55-year-old Mission: Impossible star was given Scientology’s Freedom Medal of Valor for his devotion, Travolta was furious.
Until that point, the Pulp Fiction star was considered Miscavige’s protege.
But the rivalry is as old as a Welcome Back Kotter rerun, the Mail reports.
“It was no secret that Cruise and Travolta despised each other,” Tighe said.
“Travolta wasn’t invited to Cruise’s wedding with Katie Holmes, it told me everything. I can assure you Travolta doesn’t recognize Cruise as a superior in any way. When Cruise got that medal Travolta was so p—– off.”
And it appears Miscavige played the top Thetanic thespians against each other as they vied to be the most fanatical.
“The closest person Miscavige had ever said that about before was Travolta, he was told by Miscavige that he was the most dedicated Scientologist and had introduced more members than anyone, so it was like getting his title stripped, he was jealous.”
The petulant Face Off star then dictated a letter to his driver who had to write to the Scientology kingpin, asking what the medal was about.
“I’d say it’s a 50/50 split whether Cruise is even respected in Scientology,” Tighe said. “When Cruise got the medal, the Office of Special Affairs [Scientology’s secret police] was on high alert for any comments that were negative — it built up a lot of resentment within the ranks of Scientology, they didn’t think he deserved it.”
Tighe added that Cruise was standoffish and unfriendly. Guards had to have their teeth whitened regularly — the actor liked bright smiles.
Calling Cruise a mamma’s boy, Tighe confirmed there were auditions for the role of Mrs. Tom Cruise. Katie Holmes and Scarlett Johannsen among them.
Holmes got the part and Johannsen got a scarlet letter for her hostility to the church — and Cruise.
Travolta and another high-flying Scientologist, Cheers star Kirstie Alley, could not have been more different than Top Gun star Cruise.
“Travolta was always interested in other people,” Tighe said.
