Kevin Feige Promises to Be “Less Cagey” About MCU Plans After Avengers 4

The veil of mystery surrounding the future of the MCU will be lifted after Avengers 4. Marvel Studios has been telling a singular story since 2008 and have no plans of slowing down. They’re releasing their twentieth movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp, in two weeks, but already have plans for another handful. Even with projects like Spider-Man: Far From Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially confirmed, there are even more that are just reportedly in development.

Due to the high levels of secrecy Marvel Studios has employed to help keep Avengers 4 as mysterious as possible, they aren’t ready to confirm plans for the future. Its a path they’ve chosen to avoid possibly spoiling the fallout of Avengers 4, which may not be going so well either way, as the two aforementioned sequels star characters who are currently “dead.” But, all will be revealed after Avengers 4.

In an interview with Comic Book, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was asked about how they’re going to make the future of the MCU known. They’re skipping San Diego Comic-Con this year (possibly to avoid the pressure of announcing Phase 4), but he says they’re currently figuring out how to make all these announcements – and he can’t wait to talk about them.

Marketing’s coming up with all sorts of things. How to debut [those plans], how to debut Captain Marvel, lots of opportunities for fun, exciting stuff coming up. And after Avengers 4, being less cagey about it.

Since over half of the MCU’s heroes vanished thanks to Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War, announcing more movies would add more chances for fates to be revealed. Its understandable why Feige’s made this choice, but it’ll also be difficult to keep up, as they aren’t going to halt production altogether. Far From Home is likely to have a major MCU character appear, just as Iron Man did in Homecoming, and whoever it is will secure their Avengers 4 fate too. The same goes for Guardians Vol. 3, where Chris Pratt and others believe they’re returning despite their currently unclear fates.

Whenever and however Marvel Studios decides to make the future known, we’ll have to wait and see if these plans end up reported on beforehand. They’re said to have a director shortlist for Black Widow, even though they haven’t even confirmed they’re making the movie. The studio also reportedly hired a team of writers to pen a script for The Eternals, which signifies it being a priority for them. With other sequels like Black Panther 2 and Doctor Strange 2 also rumored to various levels, it may only be a matter of time before all is revealed one way or the other – even if that doesn’t come until after Avengers 4 hits theaters.
