Toronto Police have arrested an Oshawa man in connection to a hit-and-run that left a 50-year-old woman crossing the road dead in Briar Hill earlier this week.
Isabel Soria was crossing the intersection near Dufferin St. and Briar Hill Ave. around 3 p.m. Monday and struck by a pick-up truck that fled the scene.
The female pedestrian died of her injuries in hospital that night.
“The community as a whole was outraged with what had happened and results of the investigation, with help from the public and the media, we were able to bring this investigation to a conclusion,” said Traffic Services Const. Clint Stibbe on Friday.
“Fail to remain collisions have been a problem going back years and years. People trying to avoid responsibility for collisions they may be involved in. We are now able to bring closure to that family.”
The following day, investigators released CCTV footage showing the driver of the pick-up coming to a stop after the collision and approached the woman, seemingly speaking to her before he returned to his truck and left the scene.
Jesse Petroff, 27, of Oshawa, faces several charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, failure to stop after accident causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear at 1000 Finch Ave. W. court Friday morning at 10 a.m.
