The John Tavares era in Toronto will start on Sept. 13.

That’s the day the Maple Leafs will open training camp with medicals at the MasterCard Centre.

Once the obligatory poking and prodding is done, the Leafs will head to Niagara Falls, where the club will be on the ice at the Gale Centre Arena Sept. 14-16.

The Leafs’ eight-game pre-season starts on Sept. 18, when they will meet the Ottawa Senators in Lucan, Ont., as part of Kraft Hockeyville 2018.

The regular season gets underway on Oct. 3 when the Leafs play host to the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena.

Five days later, on Oct. 8, there will be a special moment for the Toronto Marlies and the Leafs organization as a whole.

The Marlies that day will open their 2018-19 regular season at home against the Cleveland Monsters at 3 p.m.

Prior to the game, the Marlies will raise their 2018 American Hockey League Calder Cup champion banner to the rafters at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Tavares, of course, was the NHL’s main prize on the free-agency market and signed with his home-town Leafs on July 1, putting his signature on a seven-year, $77-million US contract.
