Taiwanese detectives are trying to unravel the grisly dismemberment slaying of a Canadian teacher whose body parts were discovered in a Taipei park.
Cops say they believe the murder of Ramgahan Sanjay Ryan, 43, may have been drug-related.
On Thursday, investigators discovered two machetes on a riverbank near where the English teacher’s body was found.
The Taiwan News reported that detectives believer there may have been more than one killer.
It is not known where in Canada Ryan is from but his Facebook page indicates he might be from Alberta.
Tragedy followed the teacher. His wife, Cat Diamond, drowned last October.
Using surveillance footage police discovered the victim left his home at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday. About 20 minutes later, he is seen visiting an ATM ,where he withdrew a large sum of cash, the News said.
Once he withdrew the money, he returned home and took his dog, Lulu, for her evening walk. It was the last time Ryan was seen on surveillance footage and the last time he was seen alive.
Cops believe it’s possible the man may have been murdered while he walked his dog in Zhongzheng Riverside Park, where his body was discovered Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, Ryan was arrested last March in a drug case but he further fell afoul of cops when he was required to submit a urine sample. Instead, he used tap water.
And things didn’t get any easier after the March incident.
In May, Taipei cops found a number of foreigners in possession of marijuana at a popular nightclub and Ryan was fingered as the source and arrested.
Investigators believe his murder may be tied to the illicit drug trade. But it also may have been a simple case of robbery.
Between Aug.20 and Aug. 21, he had withdrawn about C$4,241 yet no cash was found on his body or in his house, police say.
Coincidentally, he had offered the same amount as reward money for the return of his dog “Spongy” after the pooch went missing following the drowning death of Ryan’s wife, the News said. It was not confirmed if Spongy was ever found.
