Channel Zero Season 4 Gets Striking New Poster, October Premiere Date

Syfy’s creepy horror anthology series Channel Zero is gearing up for season 4 with a new poster and the reveal of an October premiere date. As the quality and production value of TV has continued to increase over the decades the medium has existed, so has the small screen’s capacity to deliver effective, unsettling horror. Once upon a time, the lower budgets and stricter content standards of TV hampered most attempts at frightening fare, but nowadays, shows across the TV landscape are delivering the terrifying and/or gory goodness horror fans love.

Perhaps the best example of this is Syfy’s Channel Zero, which tells a new 6-episode story with each season. Created by Nick Antosca (formerly of NBC’s excellent Hannibal series), Channel Zero tells tales based on creepypasta stories that have gained popularity online. The first season, which aired in 2016, was based on writer Kris Straub’s “Candle Cove,” and introduced viewers to an evil kid’s TV program. 2017’s season 2 was based on Brian Russell’s “The No-End House,” and chronicled a group of characters’ attempt to escape the titular building after making the foolish decision to enter. Season 3, aired in early-2018, was loosely based on Kerry Hammond’s “Search and Rescue Woods,” and given the name “Butcher’s Block.” That season featured some of the most disturbing imagery and goriest deaths on the series to date.

It’s been known for months now that Channel Zero season 4 would premiere before the end of 2018, and be subtitled “The Dream Door.” Now, Bloody Disgusting reports that the new season will premiere on October 26. A new poster has also been released, which can be seen below.

Based on the creepypasta “Hidden Door” by Charlotte Bywater, “The Dream Door” centers on a pair of newlyweds, Jillian (Maria Sten) and Tom Hodgson (Brandon Scott, returning from the cast of “Butcher’s Block”). When the couple discovers a mysterious door in their basement, all hell soon breaks loose, threatening both their marriage and their lives. Horror genre vets Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator) and Steven Weber (The Shining miniseries) appear in supporting roles.

In an interesting twist, Syfy has opted to forgo the usual weekly structure for Channel Zero season 4, instead employing a unique scheduling strategy more akin to a miniseries. After season 4’s premiere airs, a new episode will air each subsequent night, with the season finale airing on Halloween. Naturally, horror fans tend to love Halloween and everything that goes with the holiday, so it’s easy to see why Syfy thought this might be a fun way to roll out new programming leading up to the big day. One wonders though if this will be the last season of Channel Zero. The series originally received 2-season order, which was followed fairly quickly by an order for seasons 3 and 4. However, there’s so far been no word whatsoever on a possible season 5. If this is indeed Channel Zero’s last hurrah, here’s hoping it goes out with a bang.
