Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Trailer #2 Unites All Web-Slingers

Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) learns just how many web-slingers there really are in the latest Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer. The animated film brings Miles (aka. the Ultimate Spider-Man) to the big screen for the first time and gives him a mentor in the form of Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) – who, in this movie, is a superhero approaching middle-age and sees Miles as his potential replacement.

Sony’s animated Spider-Man project is unique in that it’s neither part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe nor an entry in the adjacent franchise that the studio’s Venom will try and launch this week. Into the Spider-Verse is instead the brainchild of The LEGO Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who produced and developed the film with a trio of directors that includes their 22 Jump Street cowriter Rodney Rothman, The Little Prince‘s head of story Bob Perischetti and Rise of the Guardians helmer Peter Ramsey.

Sony has now released the second full-length trailer for Into the Spider-Verse online, just in time for Venom‘s theatrical release and the film’s panel at New York Comic Con 2018 on Saturday. The promo combines footage from the first two Into the Spider-Verse trailers with material that previously screened exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. That includes first-looks clips of the various Spider-heroes that populate the film’s animated multiverse, in addition to Miles and Peter. Take a look, below.

While Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) made her grand entrance at the end of an earlier Into the Spider-Verse trailer, this new preview offers another look at the character, along with the web-slingers who were unveiled at SDCC (like Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker or Sp//dr). Into the Spider-Verse‘s lineup runs the gamut of Spider-themed heroes from the Marvel comics and even includes characters as eccentric as Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). The second trailer isn’t all-encompassing either, when it comes to the super-powered residents of the film’s Spider-Verse.

That’s probably a good thing, seeing as Into the Spider-Verse isn’t lacking for bad guys. Their ranks include The Kingpin (Liev Schreiber), Green Goblin and Prowler, all of whom are modeled after their Ultimate Comics iterations. These villains, like the movie’s web-slingers, are being brought to life here by an innovative animation approach that imitates the expressionist look and style of comic book panels – a style that ensures the Spider-Man movies have certainly never looked the way they do in this film.
